Lectors
The Proclamation of the Word at Mass is a ministry of prime importance. The
purpose of the Lector ministry is to tell the story of our faith, proclaiming
the Scriptures in such a way that God’s word comes alive for the assembly.
The assembly’s worship is greatly
enhanced by Scriptures that are effectively proclaimed. Instead of dry, ancient
texts, the Word of God is heard with immediacy, meaning and power.
In proclaiming the Word of God, the Lector grows in
love, knowledge, and appreciation of Scripture, and enjoys knowing that he/she
is contributing to inspiring and effective
liturgies.
St. Bruno Altar Servers
Young Catholics have been performing the ministry of altar server since the ninth century.
The principal
function of the ministry is to assist the presider at Mass. The ministry of the altar server is necessary for the proper celebration of the Mass.
Prospective altar servers are prepared to make a commitment to serve God and their fellow parishioners,
just as St. Bruno’s first altar server, Mitchell Gron.
Reliability, reverence, and confidence are attributes an altar server possesses.
Young people from
St. Bruno School and the Religious Education Program grade 5 through 8 are eligible to make the commitment and take on the responsibilities of the ministry, with their parents’ permission.
Eucharistic Ministers
Since the early 1980’s, one way
some of the lay man and women of our community have
chosen to exercise their common priesthood is
through Eucharistic ministry.Eucharistic
Ministers become servant of the Lord and servants of the worshipping assembly as
they distribute Christ’s Body and Blood.
This ministry requires the
ability to handle the sanctified bread and wine with reverence and confidence,
and to communicate a spirit of welcome to those approaching the Lord’s table.
By sharing the special gift of
their ministry with the community, Eucharistic Ministers accept the invitation
of Jesus to give of one’s self as he did. Participants grow spiritually,
especially in their love and appreciation of the Body and Blood of Christ.
Comite de la Liturgia Parroquial
The Parish Liturgy Committee was first started in the early 1980’s when the church began to have the laity involved in many aspects of liturgy.
The committee assists the pastor in planning liturgies based on the yearly liturgical cycle. This ministry enables our faith community to be full and active participants at our liturgical celebrations. The Liturgy Committee promotes spiritually rewarding liturgies that allow our community to effectively pray and give thanks to God.
Adult Choir
The sixty-five member St. Bruno Choir Organization is one of the largest organizations of St. Bruno and a
constant source of inspiration and pride. The choir, which sings in English,
Polish and Latin, provides music for all major liturgical celebrations as well as for weekend liturgies.
The choir is directed b Music
Director/Organist, Paul Tawech with the assistance of violinist Bogdan
Pawlikowski. Tawech has been music director at St. Bruno since 1986. Previously,
he had been music director for the parishes of Five Holy Martyrs, St. Mary of
Perpetual Help, St. Rose of Lima and St. Joseph. Besides often playing at St.
Bruno, Pawlikowski plays with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra as well as a
number of other area orchestras.
The talent of the St. Bruno Choir
Organization often reaches beyond the walls of St. Bruno Church. Under the
leadership of Tawech, the choir and Pawlikowski have been invited to perform in dozens of other
churches throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. In the early 1990’s,
the choir also presented a number of musical reviews during parish festivals.
One of the highlights of every
year in the choir presentation of Christmas carols and music for Midnight Mass.
For Christmas, 1999, parishioners and visitors alike
filled the pews of St. Bruno to hear this large parish choir and an orchestra of
nine musicians as they rang in the joyous season of Christmas at the dawn of the
new millennium.
